Precision Machining Technology

Program Overview

Are you independent, mechanical, visual, a team player? Can you put things together, problem-solve, imagine objects, think logically, multi-task? Would you like to produce something new, make things fit together, use power equipment, create models and molds, work with technology?

The advances in everything from aerospace to medicine are dependent upon improved technology designed by engineers and built by precision machinists. Because of their understanding of mechanical parts and their composition, these innovators are able to fabricate products that meet exact specifications. Every known product from paper clips to a space vehicle, is a result of machine tools and the skilled people who operate or program them. In this program, students learn to use lathes, drill presses, and milling machines to create precision metal parts. Students also learn CAD-CAM systems which involve the programming of computer controlled machines to complete projects. Tool-and-die makers, mold makers, and prototype machinists all begin their training in this type of precision machining lab. Precision Machining Technology also provides a practical basis for an engineering degree.
