Automotive Collision Repair & Customization
Overview
Are you a self-motivated team player, visual, coordinated and organized? Can you follow instructions, focus, manage tools and lift heavy objects? Would you like to use hammers, grinders, welders, complete paint projects and even manage your own shop?
Auto collision repair technicians find that their skills are in high demand. Students in Auto Collision Repair learn to assess the damage, remove and install parts, straighten bent frames, remove dents, replace sections and paint the car body. They also learn how to estimate a repair job and run a shop.
Analyzing what is needed to complete the repair and taking the job to completion involves both problem-solving skills and good manual dexterity. Collision repair and refinishing is a challenging, lucrative and rewarding career, especially as vehicles become more diverse and high-tech in their construction.
Custom fabrication focuses on learning how to use the tools and equipment of the specialty vehicle industry. In the refinishing and custom painting portion of the course, students learn the skills to bring an automobile to show car quality. Auto Customization offers opportunities in areas beyond the automotive field. The skills learned in this course can also be applied in such places as motorcycle shops, sign shops, metal fabrication shops, new vehicle conversion shops and aftermarket installation shops.
