Introduction to Nursing

Overview

Interested in pursuing a rewarding and challenging career in the healthcare industry? Can you communicate verbally, multi-task and work with people of diverse backgrounds? Would you like to be a part of an interdisciplinary team?

Warren Tech's Introduction to Nursing program can get you started. Students are introduced to a variety of medical careers and explore healthcare concepts and skills. This comprehensive program provides students with general workplace skills and specific health industry knowledge that can assist them in attaining employment in a variety of entry-level positions. 

Students will learn the theory and clinical skills required to take the state exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Additional opportunities include a Dementia Care Certificate, Phlebotomy Certification and time spent in acute care settings. This program is for serious students with a goal of a career in the healthcare field.

Program Information

  • Students will have a minimum of 16 hours of clinical time at a long-term care facility to take the CNA State Board Exam
  • More than five-week intensive clinical experience

  • Focus on patient-centered care
  • Basic Life Support Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (BLS CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification
  • Pathophysiology
  • Cadaver Lab at Red Rocks
  • Program approved by Colorado Board of Nursing
  • Additional opportunities include:
    • Phlebotomy Certification
    • Certificate in Dementia Care
    • Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the Nurse Aide Certification Examination (additional cost)

Prerequisites

  • Must provide proof of up-to-date immunizations, current influenza vaccination, COVID vaccination, and TB skin test results.
  • Drug screening and a background check are required.
     

Prerequisites

Students who enroll in this program are required to participate in clinical experiences in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals and assisted living centers. Warren Tech's healthcare industry partners require participants to meet the vaccination requirements of their facilities. You will be asked to provide proof that you have fulfilled these requirements to participate in this Warren Tech program.

Warren Tech North Campus

Students must provide transportation to and from clinical sites.

College credits 

  • Available through Red Rocks Community College. 
  • Requires minimum scores on the college-level placement test.

High School credits

First semester: 

  • 0.5 Intro to Pathophysiology (lab-based science credit)
  • 1.0 Nursing Assistant A 

Second semester:

  • 0.5 Intro to Pathophysiology (lab-based science credit)
  • 1.0 Nursing Assistant B
