Precision Machining Technology
Overview
Are you an independent, mechanical and visual team player? Can you put things together, problem-solve, imagine objects, think logically and multi-task? Would you like to produce something new, make things fit together, use power equipment, create models and molds, and work with technology?
The advances in everything from aerospace to medicine are dependent upon improved technology designed by engineers and built by precision machinists. Innovators can fabricate products that meet exact specifications because of their understanding of mechanical parts and their composition.
Every known product, from paper clips to a space vehicle, is a result of machine tools and the skilled people who operate or program them. In this program, students learn to use lathes and Computerized Numerical Control CNC) machines to create precision metal parts.
Students also learn Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD-CAM) systems, which aid in the programming of computer-controlled machines to complete projects.
Tool-and-die makers, mold makers and prototype machinists all begin their training in this type of precision machining lab. Precision Machining Technology provides a practical basis for an engineering degree.
